The module provides students with a theoretical understanding and practical experience of using social science methods including, for example, archival research, visual, textual and discourse analysis, ethnography, qualitative interviewing, surveys,digital methods and focus groups discussions. It also introduces critical theory and debates in the philosophy of the social sciences such as positionality, ethics, subjectivity, and intersectionality. Students will develop a range of key methodological skills and theoretical knowledge in preparation for their third year dissertation module.
