This module builds on students' understanding of statistics to introduce them to the theoretical and practical principles of elementary econometrics. There are three main objectives: to provide a solid grounding in the theory and practice of simple and multiple regression analysis; to introduce students to the problem of omitted variable bias and to possible solutions, such as instrumental variable methods and randomised controlled trials; and to teach students how to implement these methods on real-world data using the software package R.
