Literature and Philosophy

Module code: COM501

Credits: 15.0
Semester: SEM2

This module offers an introduction to the relationship between literature and philosophy in European thought. We will begin by exploring debates in classical (ancient Greek) thought concerning the respective functions of literature and philosophy, with a particular emphasis on Plato and Aristotle. These debates set the scene for the relationship between the two disciplines in later phases of European intellectual history, including modernism, existentialism and post-colonialism.
