This module aims to develop an awareness of the role of chemistry in contemporary societal and global issues and at equipping students with the key skills that they are likely to encounter as professional chemists, such as communication, working as part of team, critical thinking. Topics such as green chemistry, intellectual property and ethical issues arising during professional practice of chemistry will be covered. The lab component of the module will particularly focus on advanced experimental techniques, ensuring that students learn to evaluate, interpret, synthesise and discuss chemical information effectively and present scientific material to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
