Apply for funding to pay Open Access Fees
Here you will find details of how to make your research output open access or to check if you are eligible for financial support with open access publishing fees.
Open Access Routes to Research Publishing
Self archiving/Green route
Deposit your accepted research output into the institutional repository Queen Mary Online (QMRO)
Instructions on how to deposit can be found on our Depositing Your Research web page.
Our Research Publishing Policy means that your deposited research output will be made open access regardless of where you choose to publish.
Paid open access route
If your chosen publisher requires payment of publishing fees to make your research output open access, you can apply for support paying the open access fees by filling in our Open Access Fees Request Form at the bottom of this page.
To be eligible for financial support with open access publishing fees, the following criteria must be met:
- You have a current* role as research staff or post graduate researcher at Queen Mary University of London
- You had a current* role as either research staff or post graduate researcher at Queen Mary University of London when the research was submitted to a publisher
*current is defined as still under contract for research staff, and before graduation date for PGR's
After submitting your application we will assess your eligibility for open access funding and respond within 3 working days outlining what level of support we can offer.
This assessment will include:
- Are there sufficient funds available to cover the required fees?
- Is the request compliant with the open access policy of acknowledged funders?
- Is the request covered by an existing open access publishing agreement?
If we find we are unable to cover the open access publishing fees, we will advise on alternative routes to publishing or offer correspondence confirming that we are unable to provide support, for publishers that offer a waiver scheme for open access fees.
