Family Room at Mile End Library

We’re pleased to announce that the new Family Room at Mile End Library is now open, providing a welcoming and flexible space for staff and students who need to balance work or study with caring responsibilities.

A big thank you to everyone who provided us with feedback on what they'd like to see in the space. All comments were taken into consideration.

Located on the second floor of the Mile End Library, the Family Room has been designed to provide a comfortable space where parents and carers can work or study while accompanied by their children.

Features include:

• Two study desks with Hub monitors – providing dedicated workspaces for individual study or work
• Flexible access – the room is available for walk-in use, so you don’t need to book in advance
• Bookable study desks – both desks can also be booked through LibCal when you need a dedicated workspace
• Toys and learning resources – helping to create a welcoming and engaging environment for children
• Family-friendly facilities nearby – including an accessible toilet with baby-changing facilities

The Family Room is a shared space, and children must be supervised at all times. Users may also be accompanied by a spouse or partner, or by another Queen Mary student, where this does not adversely affect other users of the room.

We hope the new Family Room will make it easier for staff and students with caring responsibilities to access the Library and feel that it is a welcoming and inclusive space for them and their families.

How to use the Family Room:

The Family Room is available for walk-in use during Library opening hours. The two study desks can also be booked through the Library’s online booking system if you would like to reserve a workspace.
