HS033 Package and Transport of UN3373 Biological Substances, Category B by Road

Course Summary 

This online training module is provided by ISSL Ltd (contracted Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) to Queen Mary) to train learners in the packing and carriage of Class 6.2, UN3373 Biological Substance, Category B by road, to fulfil training criteria under applicable dangerous goods carriage and transport legislation.

This course covers diagnostic or research specimens and samples (including wastes) which assign to Category B such as excreta, blood and its components, as well as other tissues and fluids and lower risk pathogens.

  • HSD facilitate a separate online IATA-certificated course (HS025) for shipping Infectious or Biological Substances and related materials and related materials by air.
  • There is also a separate DGSA-certificated course (online or in person by arrangement with HSD) for consigning and transporting by road of higher infectious risk pathogens which classify to UN 2814 Infectious substances, Category A.

Duration 

At own work time and pace, typically a total of 1 hour is required for the training course and Knowledge Check. 

Delivery 

Online course module provided by ISSL Ltd with an integrated Knowledge Check, for completion in learner’s own work time. Learner must achieve a minimum of 80% in the Knowledge Check to generate a self-printed/PDF certificate of training. Please then upload your certificate to your own CPD record and provide a copy to your departmental training record log.

Learner enrolment

For Queen Mary payrolled staff who are to pack, mark, label, and document shipments by road of Class 6.2, UN3373 Biological Substance, Category B.

You must be approved by your Head of Department or your Research Group Lead to complete this course.

Please complete the specific enrolment form. HSD will facilitate the enrolment with ISSL Ltd.

Once registered, each learner will receive ISSL Ltd joining instructions and an email to log in and access the training. Each learner will require their own log-in and this must not be shared with anyone else.

Training is valid for 2 years; if required, repeat for further 2-year period by completing the booking form.

Summary Outcome / Content 

At the end of the training, a learner will understand what dangerous goods are in the context of biological substances and the appropriate packaging, documentation and consignment duties for specimens / samples assigned to Class 6.2, UN3373 Biological Substances, Category B and any associated wastes which are to be transported by road.
