Centre for Early Career Researchers

Service statement

The CECR supports Early Career Researchers (ECRs) at QMUL to develop their skills and research careers.

We work to support ECRs from their first day as postgraduate research students at QMUL, through their postdoctoral research positions, fellowships and the early stages of their first academic roles.

Our Centre's main functions include:

  • Supporting researchers from doctoral study into early academic careers, covering stages from postgraduate research (PGR) through to approximately the second year of an academic appointment.
  • Providing training and development opportunities to help researchers build research, leadership, and professional skills.
  • Supporting career development, whether researchers are pursuing academic, research, or broader career pathways.
  • Strengthening research culture by recognising and supporting the contribution that early career researchers make to QMUL's research environment and impact.
  • Bringing together support previously spread across different areas, including activities that had been linked to the Doctoral College and Queen Mary Academy Researcher Development team.
  • Bringing together support for Doctoral Training Entities through applications, demand management and cross university collaboration.
