Queen Mary’s Dr Maria Fanou designated to ICSID Panel of Arbitrators

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) is an affiliate of the World Bank and the main international dispute resolution forum administering investor-State Disputes.

Dr Maria Fanou, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in International Dispute Resolution at Queen Mary University of London, has been designated by the Government of the Hellenic Republic to serve on the Panel of Arbitrators maintained by ICSID (Article 14(1) of the ICSID Convention). The designation took effect on 6 August 2026 and runs for a six-year term.

Panel members are of high moral character and have recognized competence, in law, notably investment law and arbitration. Nominated individuals are available to serve as arbitrators in investment disputes brought under the Convention. Maria is one of the very few individuals under 40 who have been designated to serve on the Panel of Arbitrators.
