Beyond Sustainability Toolkit
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe education is a powerful catalyst for change. The Beyond Sustainability Toolkit reflects this belief, equipping educators with practical, engaging, and thought-provoking tools to bring sustainability to life in the classroom. Whether you’re new to sustainability or looking to take your teaching further, this toolkit supports you in creating learning experiences that are creative, critical, and connected to real-world challenges.
What is the Beyond Sustainability toolkit?
The Beyond Sustainability Toolkit is a flexible, easy-to-use resource designed to support the integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into Business and Management teaching and learning. Created with support from the UN PRME Chapter UK & Ireland’s Innovative Pedagogy Seed Funding Competition, the toolkit offers a curated set of activities, guidance and reflective tools to embed sustainability in meaningful and inspiring ways.
It is underpinned by a simple but powerful principle: to make a real difference, our educational systems must work in closer alignment with the needs of society and the planet.
What is it for?
Whether you’re developing a new module, refreshing your approach, or encouraging deeper discussion around sustainability, this toolkit is designed for you. The resources are interactive, engaging and often playful, yet always grounded in critical thinking and global frameworks like the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Use the toolkit to:
- Design inclusive, sustainability-focused learning experiences
- Inspire critical engagement with global and local sustainability issues
- Encourage student-led reflection and creativity
- Explore international sustainability frameworks in innovative ways

The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) is a UN-supported initiative that works to embed the values of sustainability, ethics and responsibility in business and management education. Established in 2007, PRME supports educators around the world through its Seven Principles, which align closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The PRME Chapter UK & Ireland acts as a collaborative hub for universities and institutions in the region. It promotes the sharing of knowledge and best practice, and supports initiatives like the Beyond Sustainability Toolkit to drive meaningful, long-term change in higher education.
