In celebration of International Women’s Day, the School of Business and Management at Queen Mary University of London, in collaboration with the School of Economics and Finance, hosted the Rise Up - Women in Business and Finance event.
Queen Mary Academics: Dr Eileen Tipoe, Dr Lilian Schofield and Dr Lisa Diane Morrison.
Held at at the Mile End campus at Queen Mary University of London, the event gave students a first-hand look at the vast opportunities a degree in business and finance can open up. Attendees explored potential career paths, from university courses to internships and long-term prospects in the sector. The event aimed to demystify the transition from school to higher education, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to take their next steps.
One of the key themes of the event was the importance of female representation and voice in business and finance. Women remain underrepresented in leadership roles across these sectors, and increasing diversity is essential for fostering innovation, inclusivity, and success. By engaging with accomplished female academics and professionals, students saw first-hand the impact that representation can have and why their voices matter in shaping the future of these industries.
Academic presentations and interactive sessions led by leading female academics, including Dr Lilian Schofield, Dr Lisa Diane Morrison, and Dr Eileen Tipoe.
Inspiring talks from student societies, including 'Women in Consulting' and student speakers discussing internships and employability.
A dynamic alumnae panel featuring Festina Nushi (graduate from the School of Business and Management) and Jessica Abbott and Maryam Ayandipo (graduates from the School of Economics and Finance), who shared their experiences about university and their careers.
Networking opportunities over lunch, where students connected with Queen Mary staff, students, and alumni to discuss their aspirations and gain further insight into career progression.
An optional campus tour, giving students a glimpse into university life and the academic resources available at Queen Mary.
The event was a testament to the dedication and commitment of Queen Mary in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The carefully curated sessions, engaging discussions, and networking opportunities left attendees feeling empowered to take their next steps in business and finance with confidence.
