What is SBM Mentoring?

SBM Mentoring is a mentoring programme which connects students from the School of Business and Management with a member of our alumni community, or an experienced UK-based working professional. Through these one-to-one relationships, mentors support students to make better-informed career choices, develop their employability skills, and gain confidence in applying for graduate job roles.

Who can apply?

A UK-based working professional ideally in the following areas/functions: Accountancy, Asset Management, Banking, Consultancy, Finance, Government, HR, Law (for Business with Law students), Marketing,  and Entrepreneurship and Sustainability.

What is expected of you?

  • Have a minimum of two years of professional experience (exceptions may be considered in some circumstances).
  • Be available to support a student for 7 months (November 2025 – May 2026) voluntarily (we ask mentors to meet with mentees for approximately 1 hour per month (up to six sessions), this can be face-to-face, or via telephone/Zoom). Two of the sessions must be in-person.
  • Live and work in the UK and be able to travel to London to meet mentee in-person at least twice.
  • Be available to attend one of our mandatory online mentor induction sessions in August.
  • Ideally be available on Tuesday 11th November from 6 PM – 8 PM to attend the SBM Mentoring Launch Event (an in-person event taking place at our Mile End campus where all mentors and mentees meet for the first time). However, if you are not available, please do not let this deter you from applying!
  • Ensure that you are regularly communicating with your mentee in a timely manner.
