Profile

Deanna is the Director of Clinical Research for Neonates and Children (Nursing & Allied Healthcare Professionals) at Barts Health NHS Trust, and a visiting senior lecturer at Queen Mary University of London. Deanna is an Occupational Therapist and has worked predominantly in acute paediatric and neonatal settings in Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom. She is a certified neonatal therapist and certified in neonatal touch and massage.

Deanna is a senior trainer for The Brazelton Centre of Great Britain and serves as the international representative on the Neonatal Therapy National Certification Board.

In 2018, Deanna was awarded a Merit Award from the Royal College of Occupational Therapists UK in recognition of her contribution to neonatal occupational therapy. In 2022, Deanna received the Excellence in Research Award from the National Association of Neonatal Therapists.

Teaching

Module lead: Quality improvement and research methods in neonatology on the MSc/PGDip Advanced Neonatal Practice online programme.

Research

Research Interests:

Deanna’s doctoral work explored parenting occupations in neonatal intensive care settings. Her postdoctoral research is focusing on the influence of parent psychological well-being on engagement in caregiving and parent self-efficacy in the NICU.
