English Research: Britain and Tea

In 2015, researchers from Queen Mary announced that they had found what might be the oldest tea in Britain. The dried green tea, brought from China around 1700 by ship’s surgeon James Cuninghame, was given as a gift to the famous physician and collector of curiosities, Hans Sloane. It was the start of a love affair that changed Britain forever.

In this video, the research team discuss the significance of their discovery and their work as historians of Britain's favourite drink.
