Student ambassador scheme
What is the Student Ambassador Scheme?
The UK Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team (UKSR & WP) at Queen Mary manages the central Student Ambassador scheme. This scheme provides our students with the opportunity to undertake part-time, casual work, primarily to support student recruitment activity and earn as they learn. It also allows them to develop the skills and competencies required to become highly employable and be successful in the workplace after graduation.
Work opportunities are offered to ambassadors on an ad-hoc basis as the need arises and ambassadors choose whether to apply for it based around their academic studies. This allows students to maintain a manageable balance between their professional and academic work.
What sort of jobs can student ambassadors do?
Our ambassadors undertake a variety of jobs and tasks and receive training to deliver core activities for the Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team and the wider Queen Mary network.
Role types
Student Ambassadors
Support events, activities and other ad-hoc work including UCAS Fairs, HE Fairs, Open days etc.
Senior Ambassadors

Typical tasks
Student Ambassadors represent Queen Mary when attending higher education fairs around the country, school visits, open days and more. They provide excellent customer service and accurate information about the University to prospective students and their influencers including parents, carers and teachers.
Our ambassadors undergo additional training to deliver presentations about Queen Mary, higher education in general and their experiences as a student. These are delivered at both on and off campus events and includes assisting staff in running workshops, student panels and other related activities.
Student ambassadors showcase the University and its facilities to potential students and guests during campus tours which are delivered on a regular basis at the Mile End campus. Our ambassadors take guests around the campus on tours lasting approximately 1.5 hours describing the history and the advantages and benefits of studying at Queen Mary.
Student ambassadors take part in the set-up and breakdown of events assisting staff with tasks such as moving equipment and stock, setting up banners/flags, tents and signage, setting up room furniture, testing equipment, dressing stands, preparing welcome packs etc.
Student ambassadors produce a variety of content for our social media campaigns including facilitating social media presence and reach of departments and respective faculties through posts, shares, favourites, likes, comments, takeovers and stories.
They also produce student-led content including blogs, vlogs, stories and answer questions about services, events and resources on our UniBuddy platform.
Our student ambassadors contribute towards marketing campaigns by sharing their Queen Mary experience (course, teaching, student life, etc.) through short films and/or photography which can be featured and shared on our websites, social media, print literature and PR. They also provide quotes, statements and reviews for campaigns.
Student ambassadors carry out occasional office work including mail outs, packing, calling campaigns to students, data entry, data capture, focus groups and other ad hoc tasks.
