Profile
I took up my role as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the PharmaSMaSH Project at Queen Mary University of London in January 2025, after several years of teaching and research appointments at institutions including the University of Sussex, Birkbeck University, and the University of York.
While my academic background is rooted in the humanities, particularly history and cultural studies, my work is highly interdisciplinary, incorporating methodologies and approaches from sociology, anthropology, and public health. My research explores the intersections of biomedical technologies, sexual health, and activist networks, with a focus on HIV/AIDS prevention and the self-managed health practices of men who have sex with men.
My research interests lie at the crossroads of queer studies, critical public health, and biopolitics, particularly in relation to the digital and transnational flows of pharmaceuticals. To date, my work has examined the use of PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), antiretroviral drugs, and the formation of activist therapeutic communities. My ongoing projects explore the ethical dimensions of sexual health interventions and the cultural narratives surrounding self-managed care, activism, and health sovereignty.
In the academic year 2024-2025, I am contributing to the PharmaSMaSH Project by leading research on antiretrovirals for HIV prevention. My work investigates the formation of therapeutic communities and their interaction with digital platforms, transnational networks, and healthcare policies.
