Tanzeela Ali

Tanzeela studies BA Geography.

What attracted you to your programme?

What attracted me to the BA Geography programme was knowing how multi-disciplinary and broad Geography is as a subject. What I enjoy most about the course is learning about processes/concepts involved in social injustice. For example, the intersectionality of social identity characteristics possesses the potential to disclose formerly unknown health inequalities.

How do you think studying Geography is helping you to reach your future career goals?

Studying Geography as a degree is helping me to reach my future career goals by allowing me to develop an array of different skills that are valuable in any workplace; it is equipping me with relevant and up-to-date knowledge and information about a broad range of topics which puts me in a great position as an applicant for a variety of jobs.

How do you like to spend your time away from your studies?

During my time away from studies, I enjoy reading to expand my knowledge of topics that most interest me, for instance, ‘Prisoners of Geography’ has advanced my understanding of how a country’s global status is influenced by its physical location; in my spare time, I also take on leadership roles inside and outside of university to hone skills and gain valuable experience.

Do you have any advice for students moving to London?

My advice for students moving to London is to explore the city and local area so that you can discover places you enjoy going to for relaxing and having fun.
