Why did you choose to study at Queen Mary University of London?

When I visited the campus during the open day, Queen Mary had such a welcoming atmosphere. I felt like I could fit in here unlike some of my other university visiting experiences. The campus environment, with the library, Ground Café and lecture buildings being close together gave the university a comfortable feel.

What attracted you to your programme?

The course content was really diverse from modules concentrating on cultural geography and economic geography to focusing on specific places like India and Boston. Knowing that I could tailor my learning to my interests by choosing my modules was a definite plus from the beginning.

What do you enjoy the most about your course/the School of Geography?

I enjoy the variety of topics that is covered. Geography is comprised of so much more than I initially realised and its relevance in everyday life is reflected in the course through modules on home and society. It is very encouraging to have lecturers who are enthusiastic about what they are teaching and easy to approach when help is needed.

How do you think studying a degree in Human Geography is helping you to reach your future career goals?

My future goal is to help people and what a better way to do than to learn about the social, economic, political and environmental issues that affect communities in the UK and worldwide. Studying Human Geography has helped me the learn new skills such as talking to people through interviews as well as working with data to make critical judgements about information that is presented to me.

How do you like to spend your time away from your studies?

London is always at the doorstep of the university to explore. Trying different types of cuisine from Japanese to Turkish is a new experience that I have embraced when I have free time in the week.

Do you have any advice for students moving to London?

Go explore London! From the city’s famous landmarks to the hidden treasures, go see everything! Especially go and try all the different cuisines London’s multicultural community has to offer you. So many new places are just one bus or quick train ride away.
