We are very happy to share that Dr Alex Henshaw has been awarded a NERC Growing Shoots award. The funded project, Wilder Cities: Transforming Connectivity for Nature Recovery, also involves Professor Gemma Harvey (Geography), Dr Joanne Littlefair (SBBS) and Dr Megan Clinch (WIPH).

The project seeks to address the challenges associated with increasing landscape-scale habitat connectivity in cities, where the spatial configuration and quality of habitat is governed by complex historical, social, political and economic factors.

The award will support the formalisation of a partnership comprising QMUL, London Wildlife Trust, Transport for London, London Borough of Waltham Forest, Greenspace Information for Greater London CIC and grassroots community and environmental organisations in East London; delivery of knowledge exchange activities; and co-production of funding applications to support research and public engagement activities relating to urban nature recovery.

The project will run for 15 months from January 2024.
