Forum for the Advancement of Student Systems

Principles

FASS has adopted a number of principles to guide its work.

  • The user experience of staff is improved and simplified, aiming for maximum benefit for the maximum number of staff
  • The complexity of the Student Systems Ecosystem is reduced, including reducing the number of systems performing the same function and reducing the number of different interfaces between systems
  • The consistency of operational processes across QM should be increased (except where inconsistency is justified)
  • Local system solutions are replaced with centralised systems (except where local systems are justified)
  • Development of student systems should support - and not detract from - the QUIP goal of improving the quality of QM data on students
  • Process improvement is considered as part of every initiative, with the process models in Qmaps being reviewed and updated for each approved initiative

It has also endorsed and taken on the following principles from the PS Enabling Plan.

We will create user experiences that:

  • are seamless and consistent, with a personal feel
  • are inclusive, user-friendly and clearly communicated
  • are collaborative and co-created with our diverse community
  • support innovation and diversification in education and research that is in line with Strategy 2030 and contributes to the financial health of the institution
  • reflect a risk-based approach to compliance
  • offer a high level of self-service with 24-hour access through personal devices
  • deliver added value through in-person interactions.
