Research Matters: changing lives in east London and beyond

22 May 2019

Time: 5:30 - 8:30pm
Venue: The Great Hall, North Wing, St Bartholomew's Hospital, West Smithfield, London, EC1A 7BE

This year’s Research Matters forum will focus on ‘patients’ experience of taking part in research’, highlighting some of the different ways research staff are working to inform our patients about opportunities to take part in studies and to provide them with the best possible experience of taking part in research. The programme includes:

  • an introduction to the NIHR Clinical Research Network’s annual Patient Research Experience Survey (PRES) with results from the 2018/19 survey, the lessons we have learned and planned improvements;
  • a presentation from staff in the Renal Unit, providing a snapshot of some of the current studies examining kidney health conditions, and offering some insights into an exciting project aimed at understanding, and overcoming, barriers to participation in research within the Bangladeshi community;
  • Patient Research Champions: one year on, we will provide a brief update on the initiative and showcase some of the many ways volunteers are helping to improve our patient’s experience of research.

There will also be films, group discussions and a chance to meet with some of our researchers and senior staff at our drinks reception immediately following the forum.

There will also be a number of additional activities taking place in May as part of our Research Matters programme. Look out for pop-up stands at our hospitals or join a tour of the Clinical Research Unit, where you will have a chance to meet and chat with research staff and former trial patients and learn more about how clinical research is conducted in our hospitals and the impact it has had on patients.
