The Catalans

13 May 2015

Time: 6:00pm
Venue: David Sizer Lecture Theatre, Francis Bancroft Building, Mile End Campus

In recent years the Catalans’ quest for independence has become a mainstream political and social issue.
Featuring keynote speakers from a range of disciplines, this symposium will provide a platform to explore:

• the background to the rise of the grassroots movement
• the grievances and opportunities that have fuelled the surge of separatist feeling
• the activities of the main pro-independence organizations – including the Assemblea Nacional Catalana (with 40,000 paid-up members and hundreds of local branches)
• the steps being taken towards the country’s emancipation
