Inaugural Lecture Series: Re Launch Event

Time: 12:00am - 7:30pm
Venue: The Octagon & The Great Hall, Mile End Campus, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London, E1 4NS

To mark the commencement of the new Inaugural Series, the Events Office are hosting an internal conference open to all academics and administrators.

The conference will provide an opportunity to find out about new developments in the Series and to celebrate its re-launch.

Following a welcome from Professor Simon Gaskell, President & Principal, the afternoon will consist of talks, discussions, presentations and interactive workshops delivered by expert guests speakers and all developed to inspire new ideas and further improve the Series.

-  Only the first one hour session is compulsory, simply select which of the remaining sessions you would like to attend from the list above.

-  Lunch/refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

-  All attendees are invited to attend an evening reception that will include entertainment from 5.30pm.

SESSION ONE (Compulsory): OPENING PRESENTATIONS: 12.30pm - 1.30pm

Introduction to the Inaugural Lecture Series 2015/16

Lunch and Networking from 1:30pm

 

SESSION TWO: WORKSHOPS: 2.15pm - 4.15pm

Workshop A - Public Speaking Masterclass: "Inaugural Lectures are Unique" This practical presentation will be delivered by the renowned Public Speaking Academy who will provide insight and ideas on presenting complex material to a broad public audience. This session is open to anyone wishing to develop their presentation skills and is garanteed to change how you think, feel and speak at future public lectures.

Workshop B - Event Planning Workshop "Planning Inaugurals and beyond" An opportunity to meet with other administrators within the College who organise and plan events and to develop a supportive network of event planners. This interactive session will encourage attendees to share ideas and best practice with some useful top tips thrown in by the Events Office.

SESSION THREE: TECHONOLOGY IN LECTURES: 4.45pm - 5.15pm

4.45pm - 5.15pm - "Prezi - A Platform for Presenting" An introductory 'taster' session on new and exciting software that can be used to further improve the way lecture content is displayed to public audiences. As part of the Inaugural relaunch the Events Office will be providing Prezi accounts and a training workshop to any academics wishing to try something new. SESSION FOUR: EVENING CELEBRATION: 5.30pm - 7.30pm

All attendees are invited to the Octagon for an evening of entertainment to celebrate the re-launch of the Inaugural Programme.
