Shakespeare in Scenes and Songs

27 November 2014

Time: 7:30pm
Venue: The Octagon, Queens' Building, Mile End Campus

In the year of the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare, pianist Gavin Roberts, actor Brodie Ross and director Dinah Stabb bring some of the most dynamic singers and actors from the celebrated Guildhall School of Music and Drama to reveal the great bard's work in musical as well as dramatic form.  Such plays as Romeo and Juliet, Anthony & Cleopatra, Othello and Macbeth come to life through the eyes and ears of composers such as Sergei Prokofiev, Richard Strauss, Samuel Barber and Joseph Horowitz.  We hear words and music that are imbued with passion, tragedy, joy and comedy and all things human, which Shakespeare so magnificently evoked and which composers have so frequently been inspired by.
