Faculty of Science & Engineering Research and Industrial Engagement Showcasing Event

The Faculty of Science and Engineering will be holding its first faculty-wide industry-focused Research Showcase on 6th November 2014. This new high-profile event will showcase the breadth of outstanding research undertaken throughout the Faculty.  The Research showcase will give an opportunity to the academic staff and researchers to share their research interests and passion with industry. Projects drawn from a wide range of subject areas will be showcased through presentations, technology demonstrators and research posters, enabling both participants and guests to discover more about the research across the very broad range of research groups and to network with each other. Over 50 researchers will be presenting posters they have designed to represent their work.

Specifically the event will:
Focus on scientific, economic and societal impacts from academic research; Provide perspectives from academics who have a successful track record in achieving Impact and developing successful commercial collaborations with external organisations; Hear from the recently appointed CEO of EPSRC, Professor Philip Nelson; Provide industry perspective (IBM and Jaguar)- their experiences of working with academia; Explore mechanisms by which to engage in with Queen Mary University of London; Address the issue of successfully securing government grants, from finding the right awarding body, to completing application forms and where to go for extra help; Detail case studies of recent successful collaborative industrial projects including: Knowledge Transfer Partnerships; CASE studentships; and Industrial Research & Development funded projects by the Technology Strategy Board.

It will be an excellent opportunity for the industry and local businesses to explore collaborative research and development opportunities with leading researchers at QMUL.
