The film tells the story of Tamara Laserson-Rostovskaia, a Jewish girl who lived through the Nazi occupation of Lithuania, and kept a diary of her experiences in the Kaunas ghetto. The documentary uses interviews with Tamara Laeserson-Rostovskaia and excerpts from her diary, inventively combined with archive footage and artwork that reconstructs her ordeal.

Evgeny Tsymbal won a BAFTA for his 1988 film about the Stalinist terror, Defence Counsel Sedov and has since made numerous films, mostly documentaries, which have won numerous Russian and international prizes.
