Profile

I self-identify as a law-and-development scholar who researches whether and how human rights law can contribute to questions of global justice. I have been in academia for more than 25 years, and have held positions at the universities of Leuven, Padua, Tilburg and Antwerp. I held a UNICEF Chair in Children’s Rights from 2007 to 2018.

Expertise

I approach children's rights from a critical perspective. I have a particular interest in children's rights in the broader context of human rights; the difference dilemma, children's rights and sustainable development (including climate change), intercountry adoption, early marriage, and the economic, social and cultural rights of children more generally.
