Dr Valerie Steeves

Full Professor, University of Ottawa, Canada

Dr. Steeves's current research focuses on children’s use of networked technologies and the impact of artificial intelligence on young people’s education, social interactions and experiences of citizenship. She is the principal investigator of The eQuality Project (a partnership of researchers, educators, policymakers, civil society groups and youth funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada), which is examining young people’s experiences of privacy and equality in networked spaces. She was also the lead researcher on the Young Canadian in a Wired World project (YCWW) from 2004-2020 and in that capacity conducted qualitative interviews with children across the country and completed two quantitative surveys of over 5,500 Canadian students.
