I have been writing and teaching family law for 43 years in New Zealand. I am an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand for my research in family law, which has a strong focus on the impact of family law on children. I am an elected Associate Fellow of International Academy of Family Lawyers and co-ordinator of the academic programme for the Academy.



Recent publications include.

  • New Zealand case studies to test the meaning and use of Article 5 of the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 2020,
  • “International child abduction, intercountry adoption and international commercial surrogacy” 2020, Henaghan M & others Family Law in New Zealand 2021 (20th ed) 
  • “Children and Capacity” in Mental Capacity Law in New Zealand 2019.


All aspects of family law, with a strong emphasis of the impact family law has on children.
