Profile

Sean Geoghegan has been called a 'trailblazer' in the rights movement for children in care. He is a founding member of the National Assn Young People In Care and developed that organisation from the ground upwards from 1980-86, working in co-production with The Children’s Legal Centre, where he played a significant role on their ‘Council for Management’.

Importantly, Sean produced and presented evidence to the ‘Parliamentary Committee on Children In Care’. Many of the policies advocated in that document 'Sharing Care' have since been accepted as good Social Work practise. His 40-page report, with its concluding children’s charter has been described as “highly influential” by the Parliamentary Committee on children in care and its impact on the1989 Children's Act.
