He practised as social worker and child care legal adviser in London, and then spent three years in the mid-1990s living and working in Romania as a social work trainer and consultant. He has been at UEA since 1998. He has worked on studies of public law care proceedings, 'edge of care' processes, planning for children in care, and reviews of 'serious cases' where children have died or suffered serious harm, and abuse or neglect is known or suspected.
