Trained as sociologist, Esther is known for her work on families, parenting, intimacy, and poverty, with a specific focus on fathers and fathering. She uses a range of quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches to explore issues across sociology and social policy. Her work addresses ongoing gendered inequalities in familial relationships, how transformations in parenting practices can be produced, and the centrality of intimacy for contemporary parent-child relations.
