The attendees were final year students reading from the ACCA-accredited BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance and BSc (Hons) Accounting and Management courses.
The event began with a session on ethics and professionalism, held to mark World Ethics Day. Students explored how ethical decision-making underpins the accounting profession and the role accountants play in maintaining public trust.

The session covered the five fundamental principles of professional ethics : integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care, confidentiality and professional behaviour. Students then applied these principles to a range of real-world scenarios and received practical advise on presenting transferable skills effectively on their CVs.
Following the workshop, students met employers from a range of organisations, including the Government Finance Function, KPMG Crown Dependencies, Ministry of Defence, KBM Training and Recruitment, Rentokil Initial, Grant Thornton and Vercity. The speed networking format gave students the opportunity to discuss internship and placement opportunities directly with recruiters and industry professionals.
Reflecting on the event, student Sajad Alfadhi said:
“I’ve learnt a lot about CV improvements, and it was a great opportunity to meet representatives from so many different companies. I’ve realised that there are a lot of companies out there that I have never looked into before, until I met them today, so that was an eye-opener for me.”
Dr. Dinusha Weerawardane, Senior Lecturer said:
“I am delighted that our students seized the opportunity to attend this Speed Networking Event at the ACCA Head Office. It was an excellent experience for them to network and have one-to-one conversations with a variety of employers, most of whom had live vacancies. I would encourage all students to participate in such events in the future because it enables easier access to employers and brings them one step closer to securing graduate level roles in accounting and finance!”
