Returning students online re-enrolment
What is re-enrolment?
Re-enrolment is a process which all returning/continuing students must complete at the start of each new academic year. It confirms that you have returned to your programme, updates us with key information that might have changed over the past year, and indicates your agreement to follow Queen Mary’s Regulations.
How will online re-enrolment work?
Re-enrolment will open on Monday 8 August 2011 (slightly later if you've taken late-summer assessment), and when this happens you'll receive an email to your College account letting you know that you can begin. You then need to follow the link - https://mysis.qmul.ac.uk/urd/sits.urd/run/siw_lgn - log-in to MySIS, the online student information system portal, and choose 're-enrol online' from your student home page.
To access MySIS you will need your central College computing account details. If you have forgotten your username or password please go to Room W209 in the Queens’ Building to obtain this information.
When you click on 're-enrol online' you’ll see a number of sections to check and update: personal and academic details, qualification history, address information, and studentship information (research students only). You can save the data and login again later if you need to find information from elsewhere to complete the process.
Once you’ve filled out the sections available to you, you can select your data consent options. This controls which pieces of personal data can be made available to various organisations. The settings cannot be changed for every option, as Queen Mary is required by law to supply certain pieces of information to government agencies. Full details are given in the system. You may then complete the re-enrolment process by agreeing to the College Declaration. The Declaration sets out what Queen Mary expects of students and what you can expect of Queen Mary in return.
Re-enrolment is an essential requirement for your programme, and must be completed by Sunday 9 October 2011. Failure to re-enrol by this deadline will result in your registration at the College being terminated and you will no longer be a student of Queen Mary.
If you have been classified as a debtor (unpaid tuition fees, field trip charges, library fine) you will not be able to access this service until you have cleared the outstanding debt. Please contact the Fees Office by email: fees@qmul.ac.uk or telephone: +44 (0)20 7882 7676.
Updating your student visa details
If you are an international student studying on campus at Queen Mary we will display the information that we currently hold against your visa and passport in the re-enrolment screens. If this information is missing, out of date (your visa has expired) or inaccurate (you have changed visa type or category, i.e. Tier 4 to Tier 1 (Post Study Work) then you must bring your new details to the relevant Registry office by 21 October 2011 so that we can update your record. It is essential that the details we hold on your record are up to date and correct in order to comply with the UK Border Agency and the Points Based Immigration System. If we can see that your initial visa has expired and you have not provided new details or passport/visa information is missing then we will limit your enrolment to temporary status until this is resolved.
Term will start for the majority of NEW students on 19 September 2011. Teaching for returning students will normally resume the following week (26 September – 30 September 2011) but this may vary between Schools/Institutes. Please check with your home School/Institute for full details.
If you have any further queries regarding re-enrolment please contact your local registry office:
- Academic Registry for Mile End based UG & PGT students on: +44 (0)20 7882 5005 or by email: enrolment@qmul.ac.uk
- Student Office for UG Medicine & Dentistry students by email: smd-student-enquiries@qmul.ac.uk
- Research Degrees Office for PhD / MPhil students by email: researchdegrees@qmul.ac.uk
Payment of tuition fees
You are responsible for the payment of your tuition fees so that you can be fully enrolled as a student at the College. If you paid by direct debit last academic session you will need to complete a new direct debit mandate.
Please refer to the Payment of tuition fees web page for further information.
Student Loan and Grant
If you have been notified by the Student Loans Company that you are eligible for a Student Loan then this will be paid three working days after the start of term (19 September 2011) provided that you have completed your online re-enrolment prior to the first day of term. If you re-enrol after the first day of term your Student Loan will be paid three working days after this date.
Students taking Late Summer Assessment/Re-assessment
If your progression to the next development year of your programme is dependent on passing resit and/or first sit examination(s) or coursework in August 2011, you will not be able to re-enrol until your Subject Examination Board has met. You will still need to attend your department’s Induction and/or Briefing/Advisor meetings. If you have been successful in the resit exams then you will be able to re-enrol online from Monday 19 September 2011.
Student card
If your student card has been lost or stolen you will need to obtain a replacement. Please check with your local Registry to see if it has been handed in. If not, complete the Replacement student card application form, available on the website or from registry then take it to the Cashiers’ Office (room W118 Queens’ building) and pay the £12 replacement card fee (cheques cannot be accepted). You must then present the receipt to registry before a new card can be issued. If your card has been stolen, we will issue a replacement free of charge if you provide us with a crime reference number.
Module registration for returning students
Module registration is the process of selecting the modules you intend to study in a particular academic year. Please note not all programmes offer a choice of modules and therefore some students will have no opportunity to alter the modules that are allocated to your chosen programme of study.
You must complete module registration in order to be entitled to attend lectures and be entered for the relevant assessment. Please also note that you will not have access to the Queen Mary Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for a module until you have completed online module registration.
If you are a student based at Mile End you will need to specify which modules you intend to take during for the full academic year. Over the course of your degree it is expected that you will take modules to the value of 360 credits for the three-year BA, BSc and BEng degrees or 390 credits in the case of Languages degrees. This equates to 24 modules (or equivalent) in total (8 per year).
The module pre-selection task was made available at the start of the 2011 summer term and many students will have already made the relevant choices. If you have not done so already you must register for your choice of modules (for the whole year – 120 credits) at the start of term and re-confirm semester 2 modules ONLY at the beginning of the second semester. You can modify your choice(s) during the first two weeks of each semester ONLY. It is your responsibility to ensure that your module registration is up-to-date and accurate.
Module registration will be available for you to access via MySIS until 9 October 2011. The online task should be completed and submitted for approval by your adviser or departmental administrator. If you fail to complete online module registration by 9 October 2011 your adviser will be forced to act on your behalf and make a selection of modules according to places available. Once selected these modules will not be changed!
When registering for your modules you will see that your selection is limited to a range of modules appropriate to your programme of study with various 'rules' to ensure that your selection is valid. The extent to which this is limited often depends of the nature of the programme, i.e. programmes in arts often have a greater choice of modules than in science and engineering. In addition compulsory and core modules will be pre-selected (you cannot delete or change these). You may submit comments with your selection to assist your adviser in the approval process.
Once you have confirmed your module selections in MySIS, a member of staff in your academic school or institute will receive the selections and consider them for approval. You may be asked to meet with a member of staff (academic advisor) at this point to discuss your selections.
You can make changes to your module selections at this stage. To do so, you must speak with your academic advisor directly and explain why you want to change the selection. If your advisor approves then s/he will reject your initial choice, allowing you to start the process again in MySIS from the beginning. This will however undo all previous selections, and you should note that you risk losing your place on popular modules by doing this.
You will receive an email informing you of the decision taken by your academic advisor. If your selections are approved, you will be registered on to the modules listed in the message. If your selections are not approved the email will explain why and will ask you to log in to MySIS again and make new selections, repeating the process until module registration is complete.
Law undergraduates must undertake four modules (or equivalent) per year.
Module registration is not necessary for first year Law students and Electronic Engineering students across all study years since the modules for these programmes are pre-determined. You will be automatically registered for your modules and able to view them via MySIS.
Resitting assessment
Please note that if you failed any modules from the previous academic year you will be asked if you want to register to resit the associated failed assessment at the next available opportunity (2011/12). If you do want to resit the failed assessment(s) then you must register to do so. If you do not want to register then you must opt out. The deadline for completing this task via MySIS is Friday 16 December 2011. If you fail to enter a decision either way by the deadline you will be automatically entered to resit the failed module and if you fail to take the required assessment you will be awarded a mark of 0 Fail. It is therefore in your own interest to ensure that you either register to resit or opt out for each failed module.
Please note that if you decide to opt out of re-sitting the module you will not be able to register to resit this module at a later date.
If you were certified absent from assessment the previous year then you will automatically be entered to sit the assessment again (without penalty) the following year.
Module Directory
Please use the Module Directory in consultation with your adviser to help make your module selection. Please note that your choice of modules may be limited depending on the programme you are taking, pre-requisites and co-requisites.
