Carlos Gómez-Restrepo is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Pontifica Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá. In his previous roles he has been the Director at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics and a Professor of Medicine also at Pontifica Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá. He has also been the director of the Colombian Journal of Psychiatry, and since 1999 has been a Quality Advisor of World Health Surverys and Terminology at the World Health Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland.

He has a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology, is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst and an active member of both INCLEN (International Clinical Epidemiology Network) and LATINCLEN (Latin American Network of Clinical Epidemiology).

Carlos is a Principal Investigator on the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Developing Psycho-social interventions.

His current research work includes:

  • Latin American Communities Research (LATC). Therapeutic communities an alternative for the treatment of addiction problems, including data from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Mexico.
  • Development, Assessment and Application of Clinic-Specific Organizational and Educational Interventions for Improving the Recognition and Management of Depression in Primary Care Settings in Developing Countries. WPA AND INCLEN. In Colombia, China and India
  • Association Study for Genetic Markers of the Dopamine receptor (DR2) and the Serotonin Transporter in the Bipolar Disorder Type I.
  • Minor Physical Anomalies and Age at Onset of Schizophrenia
