Jack Hillary Ojiambo

The late Jack Ojiambo (International Commercial Arbitration LLM, 2007) was the first Coordinator for the Kenya Chapter. He shared why he was keen for the set-up of the Chapter. We continue to share this in his memory.

I decided to get involved with the QMUL CCLS Kenya Chapter for a need to be counted, to maintain contact with the Centre, meet fellow alumni, specifically in Kenya, and network. To network between brother/sister alumni worldwide. Essentially keeping the exceptional experiences and undertakings of the Centre alive, and hopefully through the activities of the Chapter, encourage the Kenya alumni community to be involved.

What do you think the importance of the CCLS Kenya Chapter is?

The importance of the Chapter is to maintain its presence in Kenya. Along the lines of the objectives of the Centre, the Chapter here should continue to foster, in a localised fashion, an environment where lawyers practicing commercial law and those in academia can exchange their practical experiences in this ever changing world. More specifically, following my studies at CCLS, and as an Arbitration Practioner, other alumni and I can encourage the further entrenchment of arbitration and it's continued education, together with highlighting arbitration generally as a useful mechanism to the population at large.

How do you hope the Chapter will benefit alumni who join?

CCLS was set up to develop a body of knowledge and skills in the world of commercial law that continue to be of use in the wide range of institutions from government to the various private sectors worldwide. The benefit of joining this alumni community is simply an added value to each member’s growth and potential. The opportunity to network with fellow alumni in the same or different disciplines, to rekindle contact with faculty/departments as well as an opportunity for further continuous learning and to meet potential employers and companies seeking specific expertise.
