The award is in recognition of Professor Hind’s exceptional contribution to critical care, during a distinguished career spanning five decades.

Charles Hinds qualified at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1972 and was appointed consultant and senior lecturer in anaesthesia and intensive care at the same hospital in 1980.

He was director of the intensive care unit at St Bartholomew’s and later for Barts and the London NHS Trust, for more than 15 years.

Professor Hinds has served as President of the Intensive Care Society and was the UK representative to the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.

The Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine is the professional body responsible for the training, assessment, practice and continued professional development of intensive care doctors and practitioners in the UK.

The gold medal recognises work of national and international standing within the field of intensive care, through research, education and professional leadership.
