Queen Mary Staff and Students

Queen Mary Undergraduates and Taught Postgraduates 

All current Queen Mary undergraduates and taught postgraduates are entitled to use the facilities of any Queen Mary Library at any time throughout the year.

Admission

Your Queen Mary ID card also acts as your Library Card.

Undergraduate and postgraduate ID cards should be ready to use once you have completed registration. If you have any problems, staff at the Welcome Desk in any Library will be able to assist you.

Please note you will not be allowed to borrow items or laptops without your College ID/Library Card and are expected to carry it with you at all times while on campus. 

Forgotten ID

If you need to enter Mile End Library, but you have forgotten your ID card, you can now obtain a temporary card from the Kiosk located at the entrance. All you need to do is enter your Queen Mary IT credentials and the machine prints off a temporary pass that will grant you access to the library for the day.

If you're unable to use the Kiosk or visiting Whitechapel Library please visit the Library Welcome Desk with a form of identification and staff will issue a temporary pass. You can only use one temporary card per day so take care not to lose it.

You can have up to 40 entries per academic year without your ID card but please note a temporary pass will not allow you to borrow books or laptops.

Borrowing

Queen Mary UG and PGT students are entitled to borrow up to 40 items from the Libraries. Borrowing basics gives further information.

IT facilities

To use PCs in the Libraries, you will need a your IT Services QMUL username and password. You should have been given a username for this account during registration. If you do not have one, or think you have lost the details, you can can contact the IT Service Desk via Live Chat, Email, Phone & Self Service Portal 24/7.

Print Services

Your ID/Library card also functions as your Print Services card for printing, coping and scanning. Further information on how to use it can be found near the printers located across the library and IT Services Print, Copy & Scan guide.

 

Queen Mary Researchers and Staff 

Welcome Desk at West Smithfield Library

All current Queen Mary University staff, both academic and non-academic, are entitled to use the facilities of any Queen Mary library at any time throughout the year.

While PGR students are automatically registered with the Library, staff will firstly need to complete the registration form

Once the form has been submitted, the applications will be processed within 48 hours. 

 

Honorary and Visiting Staff

Honorary and visiting staff are eligible for full access to Queen Mary library's facilities, including remote access to e-resources.

To register with the Library you will first need to collect your staff ID card, this is also your Library card. Subsequently, you need to complete the registration form.

The barcode on the front of the card will allow you to gain access to the Library, use self-service machines and printers. Details about your allowance are available on the Borrowing Basics page.

To gain remote access to e-resources, you will need an IT username and password. If you do not have one already, your departmental IT representative can arrange it for you.

The maximum duration of the library membership is three years. Extension of your library membership is subject to your contract renewal. 

 

Retired Staff

Retired staff may join the library as external users.

To register with the Library please complete the Retired Staff Application Form.  A visitor card will be issued to you, enabling you to gain access to the Library. 

The maximum length of the membership is three years renewable. 

Borrowing rights are limited to up to 6 items at any one time. Access to PCs and electronic resources is not available.
