Laboratory Management documents and forms

Laboratory Management documents and forms can be located on the Blizard Laboratory Management Notebook.

Getting access to lab systems

As a lab user, you may need access to certain systems or specialist training required by researchers and technicians, such as:

  • How to get Quartzy access  
  • How to get Item tracker access 
  • How to get Checkit/CAM+ access 
  • How to get Cluster market access 
  • How to get training for Ultracentrifgues/Liquid Nitrogen Facility 
  • Training and access to GM labs 
  • Core facilities use and booking via iLabs

In the first instance, you should email the Blizard Laboratory Management Team (blizard-lab-man@qmul.ac.uk). They will be able to give you access, or advise how to get access to the systems or training you need.

Blizard meeting rooms

The Blizard Institute currently has three* bookable meeting rooms – Small Cloud, Large Cloud, and Spikey (note: Spikey should not be used for confidential or sensitive meetings). These meeting rooms are booked through the Blizard Reception. Please speak to the receptionist about your request in person, or by contacting Daniel who is covering reception at the moment: Daniel.veevers@qmul.ac.uk. All other rooms are booked centrally.

*Through the New Ways of Working (NWOW) project, more meeting rooms will become available for booking. The new rooms will be booked through a separate system once in operation.

Queen Mary teaching rooms, seminar rooms and lecture theatres

If you need to book a teaching room or meeting/seminar room outside of the three bookable Blizard rooms, you will need to request this through the Queen Mary Timetabling team: timetabling@qmul.ac.uk.

Using MyHR

MyHR is the system we use to allow employees to view and modify personal details, view and print off payslips and P60's and request holiday.

Hybrid Working Policy

The University has a Hybrid Working Policy and a range of resources to support hybrid working including a toolkit to help managers implement a model of hybrid working. FAQs are also available.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Training

Queen Mary provides training to ensure Equality Diversity and Inclusion is embedded in our policies and practices, including training on EDI Essentials, Unconscious Bias and Tackling Barriers. Access the training.

Wellbeing and mental health support

The Queen Mary Wellbeing pages provide support for staff on matters of mental, physical and financial wellbeing, including guidance for managers.

Blizard Institute EDI pages

The Blizard Institute EDI pages provide information to staff on EDI matters ranging from advice and guidance on bullying and harassment, advice and guidance on sexual violence and harassment, and provide an opportunity for staff to feed back to EDI representatives on the issues that matter most to them.

Organisational and Professional Development (OPD) provide courses, mentoring, coaching, individual support and accredited qualifications in leadership and management.

OPD also provide advice around coaching and mentoring. These are both supportive relationships wherein a colleague is empowered in making informed and proactive choices about resolving problems, planning their future, and building their career.

Blizard staff zone: the Blizard Institute's de facto staff intranet pages. It hosts information on staff news and announcements, governance, administration, and other useful information for various staff cohorts.

You can also find a list of Blizard Institute fire marshals and first aiders (including mental health first aiders). View the lists.

QMplus: the University's online learning environment (OLE). It is mainly used by students in the course of their studies and for programme delivery. QMplus is also used to host online training and induction materials for staff, among other things. User guides are available on the eLearning web pages.
