Centre for Law and Society in a Global Context

Dr Maks Del Mar to lecture in Colombia and Mexico

Published:

Dr Maks Del Mar, Reader in Legal Theory and Co-Director of the Centre for Law and Society in a Global Context (CLSGC) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), will deliver a series of lectures and graduate workshops in Colombia and Mexico.

In Colombia, at the University of Cartagena, Dr Del Mar will deliver one of the keynotes in an international conference on ‘The Philosophical Foundations of Global Law’, 24-26 August 2016, speaking on the importance of history for theorising law globally. On 27 August, he will chair the third meeting of the International Network on Transnational Legal and Political Theory, which he co-founded with Dr Nicole Roughan in 2013.

In Mexico, at UNAM (from 28 August to 10 September 2016), he will deliver two papers and convene an intensive graduate course, all linked to his book project on Imagination and Legal Cognition (for Hart / Bloomsbury), speaking about the relationship between emotion and imagination in legal reasoning; on the role of metaphor in legal argumentation; and on various ways in which lawyers and judges imagine both the past and future in the course of legal reasoning.
