Giovanni ZarraWhy did you decide to get involved with the CCLS Italy Chapter?

My experience at QMUL/CCLS represents one of the most important steps in my CV and in my life. Thanks to this experience, I remain in contact with some of my peers whom I still collaborate from a professional point of view and who have become very good friends of mine. During my LLM, I acquired the most important theoretical bases for my further academic career, which with a bit of luck, brought me to become professor of international law and international litigation in Italy when I was 30. I am therefore motivated in remaining in touch with QM and being involved in QM’s activities and to help strengthen the global QM community through the Chapter.

What do you think the importance of the Italy Chapter is?

Not many UK universities (at least with regard to law departments) have chapters in Italy. Consequently, it is difficult to get in touch with other people with the same academic background and who can create an important network of knowledge and professions. This is even more important for CCLS, considering that many Italians did their LLM at QM but it is not easy to be in contact or to even know who attended QM and when. Hence, it is important to have a clear map of people with the same background and then to be present as a community in the legal cultural debate taking place in Italy.

How do you hope the Chapter will benefit alumni who join?

A network involving the people who studied at CCLS will certainly be beneficial for all the participants to the Chapter, from the professional point of view and from the point of view of human relationships. We are many and not all of us are in contact. This is a pity!
