Description: The United States plays a powerful role in contemporary international relations. Therefore understanding its place in the international system and how its foreign policy is made is of crucial importance for every student of international relations. The module broadly focuses on the theme of American power in the world, through three areas: the historical development of US foreign policy, the institutional background, and current expressions of American power. Knowledge of these areas will give a solid overview and understanding of US foreign policy in the contemporary world.

Assessment: Item 1: 60% Examination (2 hours) Item 2: 40% Essay (2000 words)
