The Society’s Laureate Awards recognize the highest achievements in the endocrinology field, including research and innovations in clinical care.

Professor Korbonits was presented with the Gerald D. Aurbach Award for Outstanding Translational Research at an awards dinner at the ENDO SOC 2023 conference in Chicago on 14 June.

This annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to research that accelerates the transition of scientific discoveries into clinical applications.

Professor Korbonits, said:

“I am absolutely delighted to receive this Translational Medicine award. As an academic clinician engaged in research, I find myself at the intersection of clinical science and basic research. I feel greatest excitement when a clinical question can be resolved through basic research experiments, or conversely, when a basic research finding proves relevant in the field of clinical medicine.

“My accomplishments owe much to outstanding work of my trainees and the collaborative efforts of my colleagues. I hope that our work can serve as an inspiration for other colleagues and students alike, encouraging them to embark on various translational projects. Such endeavours are absolutely crucial for advancing our understanding of medicine in the future.”

Professor Korbonits  has pioneered work on the metabolic effects of various hormones. In addition, she looks after patients with endocrine diseases at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, undertakes wide-ranging teaching and supervisory activities and leads a Clinical Doctoral Programme and co-leads the Clinical Academic Training School at Queen Mary University of London.

She is currently President of the Society for Endocrinology.
