Blended learning and safe campuses: Queen Mary students ready and set for new academic year

New and returning students are joining Queen Mary this week, ready to enjoy the benefits of blended learning on our COVID-secure London campuses and around the world.

Queen Mary students are looking forward to using the full range of campus facilities and services, thanks to the incredible effort of staff from every part of the University in developing innovative new learning models and setting up the campus environment to be as safe as possible.

A safe campus environment

All facilities on campus have been redesigned to enable social distancing, with libraries, sports facilities, study areas, cafés and social activities all prepared to welcome students back safely. New protocols are in place to make sure that teaching spaces are safe, with enhanced cleaning regimes and new room set-ups. Everyone will also be able to move safely around while observing social distancing and other safety measures thanks to the extensive work that has gone into setting up our buildings and open spaces.

Information, advice and guidance to stay safe

Everyone has their own part to play in keeping our campus safe and there is a lot of guidance for students to follow, but they’ll be supported at every step. We’ve developed the Queen Mary Covid Code to help every student understand their responsibilities and will continue to provide updates on the national situation and Government guidelines. We’re also giving every student an exclusive welcome pack, which includes washable face coverings with hand sanitiser, along with other information to help settle in to life at Queen Mary.

Blended learning experience

Most students will be joining us in person and enjoying a range of face-to-face activities, including local tours for our history students, client interviews for law students and face to face tutorials across most schools. We know that some may not be able to join us right away however, so we have developed world-class online provision as the backbone of the educational experience. We have expanded our online learning facilities and used the latest bespoke technology to ensure wherever students are, they can fully access their Queen Mary education.

In what continues to be a year unlike any other, Queen Mary’s new and returning students are set to enjoy all that comes with being part of the most inclusive university of its kind, anywhere.
