About the Role

The School of Engineering and Material Science (SEMS) is seeking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Workshop Technician.

SEMS is a large School with circa 80 academics and around 50 postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1500 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 180 PhD students on the London campus. These are supported by an administrative and technical staff of circa 45. The workshop facilities are a core resource for multiple schools. The post holders will work as part of a mechanical workshop team to support research and teaching programmes. The role involves design, manufacturing high precision components in a variety of materials to high accuracy, modification of components, and providing advice for students and researchers.

About You

You should hold qualifications equitable to BTEC, HNC/D in Mechanical Engineering or a recognised and certificated apprenticeship in Engineering followed by on the job training and experience; have significant experience in mechanical engineering workshop design and production, preferably within a research or engineering development environment; be skilled in the use of standard machine tools, CNC machine tools, programming, set up and use and have a good knowledge and understanding of workshop health and safety issues and relevant regulations.
