How to apply

Students who have successfully completed A-Levels or the International Baccalaureate will be considered for direct entry onto our undergraduate degrees. We may also consider recognised Foundation qualifications. For individual grade requirements for particular degree programmes please refer to the undergraduate study section of this website.

We also consider students from Barbados with the following qualifications:

  • Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) 

This is Queen Mary’s equivalency table for GCE A-Levels and the CAPE:

A*AA Six CAPE units with an overall grade of 1, including two double-unit courses with grade 1
AAA Six CAPE units with an overall grade of 1, including two double-unit courses with grade 2
AAB Six CAPE units with an overall grade of 2, including two double-unit courses with grade 2
ABB Six CAPE units with an overall grade of 2, including two double-unit courses
BBB Six CAPE units with Grade 3 or above, including two double unit courses

Please note, the CAPE is not accepted for admission to either our MBBS or BDS programmes (but is accepted for all other undergraduate programmes). However, the CAPE may be accepted for our MBBS programme delivered in the Republic of Malta.

Postgraduate

We normally consider the following qualifications for entry to our postgraduate taught programmes: Bachelor Degree from the University of West Indies, Cave Hill or Barbados Community College.

UK 1st class degree: First Class Honours*; or GPA 3.7 out of 4.0**
UK 2:1 degree: Upper Second Class Honours*; or GPA 3.0 out of 4.0**
UK 2:2 degree: Lower Second Class Honours*; or GPA 2.4 out of 4.0**
