The Times letters to editor

Geraldine Van Bueren, Professor Emerita in Queen Mary’s School of Law, argues that now is the time to revive and expand the medieval right to food.

She writes: “During our cost of living crisis a right to food would ensure that an increasing number of people would no longer have to rely upon the stretched resources of food banks, and nor would they have to choose between eating and heating. A UK-wide right to food would also focus on the sustainability of farming, consistent with the environmental pledges of all of the political parties.”
