First Aid Training

Priority for first aid training will be given based on a number of factors such as the relevance of the training to your role and first aid coverage in your area. For futher information please see our HSD training page. 

Following successful completion of first aid training you will be automatically opted in to the local first aider system and expected to carry out first aid on ill or injured staff, students and visitors when called to do so. 

First Aid Skills update sessions for qualified first aiders. 

  • This annual, 3-hour session is designed for existing first aiders who hold current first aid or emergency first aid certificate to practice their skills and update their knowledge.
  • Please note that this is not a re-qualification course and will not affect your certificate expiry date.
  • Course content includes but is not limited to: Incident reporting • Primary Assessment • Top-to-toe survey • Recovery Position • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation • AED familiarisation • Wounds and bleeding • Soft tissue injures • Bones • Burns • Major illnesses • Scenario debrief.

First Aid Re-qualification:

  • FAW qualified: Re-qualification is to attend the 2 day re-qualification course.
  • EFAW qualified: Re-qualification is to attend the 1 day EFAW course again.
  • Time line: You must attend re-qualification with in the month that your certificate is due to expire. However, you can attend as early as 6 months before your certificate is due to expire if you wish. If you are unsure or have any questions please email Suzanne Mason for advice.
