Sadiq Khan's bid for Mayor of London hit by Labour’s Brexit fallout

Published:

The Evening Standard reported on Sadiq Khan’s bid to win a second term as Mayor of London. This has been hit by Labour’s Brexit fallout, it was revealed today, but he is still on course for a clear victory. An exclusive poll of Londoners, commissioned by the Mile End Institute, reveals that Mr Khan’s share of first preference votes has been cut from 55 per cent to 43 per cent since December after a surge for the Liberal Democrats and the Greens. Professor Philip Cowley said Mr Khan looked set for a “comfortable” win but warned: “When we last polled, Khan was so far ahead it looked as if he would win on the first round. Now the race should go to a second round. This change in the fortunes isn’t because he is personally seen as doing a much worse job. Rather, it’s because Labour’s overall poll ratings have slipped.”
