Information for students from South Korea

Queen Mary has a long history of welcoming students from around the world. Over the years, many thousands of international students have graduated from the college and gone on to pursue successful careers. Today, we are home to students from more than 100 different countries. This diversity contributes to a lively and welcoming community which should make you feel comfortable and at home.

One of the largest colleges of the University of London and one of the few with fully integrated teaching, research and residential facilities, our setting gives you the benefits both of a large campus environment and of the countless academic and social opportunities of London.

There are currently 51 students from Korea studying at Queen Mary at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels including: Business Management, Computer Science, Economics, Electronic Engineering, International Management and Marketing, Biological and Chemical Sciences, Mathematics, English and Drama, Engineering and Materials Science, Finance and Investment, Human Resource Management, and Politics.

Recognition of Korea (Republic of) qualifications for Foundation Courses (one year)


Recognition of Korea (Republic of) qualifications for undergraduate entry


  • UK Foundation or
  • 1st year of undergraduate bachelor degree from a recognised university in Korea (Republic of) with GPA 3.2 on a scale of 4 / 75% or,
  • three A levels or,
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

Second Year Entry:

  • Korea (Republic of) Junior College Diploma holder with grade B or above in a related subject

Taught degrees (MSc/MA: one year)


For taught masters courses that require a an upper second class honours degree (2:1) South Korean students are required to have:

  • GPA of 3.5 out of 4.5
  • GPA of 3.3 out of 4.3
  • GPA of 3.3 out of 4.3
  • 80%

For taught masters courses that require a an second class honours degree (2:2) South Korean students are required to have:

  • GPA of 3.0 out of 4.5
  • GPA of 2.8 out of 4.3
  • 2.5 out of 4.0
  • 70%


Research degrees (MPhil/PhD: three years)

  • The usual entrance requirement for a research degree is a masters degree from a UK university or recognised university in Korea . However, many departments also accept student with the equivalent of an upper second-class bachelor degree from a UK university (GPA 3.2 on a scale of 4 /75% or GPA 3.5 on a scale of 4.5/80% in Korea )


Please note that Junior College Diploma holders with three to five years' related work experience will usually be considered for the English language and foundation courses, a one-year course gaining them access to a masters Programme.
